St Mary Le Strand
Title
Info
The iconic view of the west facade and tower of St Mary le Strand commanding one of the Capital’s leading thoroughfares will be familiar to Londoners. In contrast, until now the church’s long history has been only thinly explored. Now this comprehensive account charts the progress of the parish from the Saxon settlement of Ludenwic onwards. During its history the parish has had several incarnations, each with a name to match – the medieval Our Blessed Lady of the Strand, the Reformation St Mary le Savoy, the Georgian New Church in the Strand and the St Mary le Strand around which the Aldwych was created. At the time of writing there are proposals for pedestrianising the roadway around the church. If these come to fruition, the church should be poised to embark upon yet another phase in its rich and varied history.
Here’s what Peter says about working with us:
“Working with Carnegie Scotforth Books was a joy throughout the process. There was no pressure but an excellent professionalism and wise advice, particularly from Lucy Frontani, who oversaw the project from the beginning. The outcome of the process was a very professionally produced book, which has been much admired.”
